The Group

  • The Group’s Name
    The group is called Twice because the girls want to win fans first (once) by the ears and then (twice) by the eyes.

  • TWICE originally had 7 members
    The original plan for SIXTEEN was for JYP Entertainment to debut a new 7-member girl group. When the results were out, Momo and Tzuyu wouldn’t have made the cut.

  • Sana, Nayeon, Jihyo, and Jeongyeon were supposed to debut in another group
    Nayeon, Jihyo, and Jeongyeon were originally all set to debut in a different JYP Entertainment girl group. The group was going to be called SIXMIX and when one of the girls dropped ou,t Sana stepped in as a replacement. SIXMIX was all set to debut in 2014, but the other members withdrew from the group, effectively canceling the whole plan. The girls were forced to wait a year to participate in SIXTEEN.

  • TWICE was the result of some serious delays
    JYP had first announced they were thinking of debuting a new girl group in 2013 since Wonder Girls were on an indefinite hiatus but those plans got pushed back to 2014. However, that group never debuted. Instead, JYP released SIXTEEN and TWICE.

  • Many of the girls made appearances in music videos before their debuts
    Chaeyoung and Tzuyu made an appearance in miss A‘s “Only You”. Jeongyeon and Nayeon were in GOT7‘s “Girls Girls Girls”. While Dahyun snuck into GOT7’s “Stop Stop It”.

Nayeon

  • Stage Name: Nayeon

  • Hobbies: watching dramas and movies, as well as watching Song Triplets videos.

Momo

  • Birth Name: Momo Hirai

  • Stage Name: Momo

  • Nicknames: Moguri, Dancing mo-chine, Momoring, Pink Lamborghini, Peach, Jokbal Queen

  • Nationality: Japanese

  • Birthday: November 9, 1996

  • Height: 162 cm (5 ft 3¾ in)

  • Hobbies: Looking at food photos while on a diet.

  • Doesn’t know what her own blood type is.

  • Recognized by the others as the nicest member. She always says “no, it’s ok” when someone apologizes to her.

  • Good at makeup and nails. Other members say she could open her own salon.

  • The one who eats the most in the group, but doesn’t gain much weight. She never needed exercises since she was a child.

  • Favorite Korean food is JokBal (a meal made with pork shanks and spicy sauce).

  • Started dancing at 3yo.

  • JYP selected her after watching she and her sister doing a cover dancing on YouTube.

Jihyo

  • When she was a third grader, her parents found a children’s contest on Junior Naver for a child role. She won the 2nd place and JYP saw her there. Then she became a JYP trainee.

    When she was in middle school she was cast on the street but her parents weren’t so sure about the opportunity. They didn’t want her to quit school and were worried about sending her overseas by herself. But she finally convinced them that it was her dream and became a trainee. Chaeyoung

  • Chaeyoung is the sleepiest of the group, the last she woke up was 5 pm and she says she could sleep for 24 hours.

  • Chaeyoung became a rapper for a mission in the monthly trainee assessment, she thought it worked for her and started practicing.

  • Chaeyoung said that Tzuyu arrived in Korea with a huge padded jacket and didn’t speak Korean, but that she was very pretty.

Jeongyeon

Tzuyu

  • Birth Name: Chou Tzu-yu

  • Stage Name: Tzuyu

  • Height: 169 cm (5 ft 6½ in)

  • Tzuyu wakes up very easily, and is always the first to get up.

  • Her older brother nicknamed her “Chocolate” because of her dark skin.

  • Tzuyu was voted in a poll in Korea as one of the 10 most beautiful female idols.

  • Tzuyu said it was very difficult at first when she arrived in Korea because she knew nothing of the language and missed her family very much.

  • Tzuyu says the foods she dislikes are the ones that aren’t hot.

  • Tzuyu is so popular in Taiwan that she was subject of school exams questions.

  • Tzuyu inspired a video game
    One game designer was so inspired by Tzuyu‘s awesome skateboarding that they decided to create their own game around her. The game features a cute Tzuyu avatar and some good skateboarding action.
    According to the legend, who ever beat the game will earn a skateboard from Tzuyu.

Dahyun
